A high school Youth Council was established in 2004. It is an extremely active group of high school teens interested in representing and serving their peers. They receive leadership training and many opportunities to practice it. The Youth Council’s primary functions include planning and leading Youth Nights, assisting with the primary planning and setup of various High School events and leading of Middle school, and also evangelizing their peers. “To whom much is given, much is required.”(Luke 12:48).
To be on Youth Council is a big responsibility. We recognize that this degree of peer leadership and Christian discipleship is a huge commitment. Because of this, it is necessary to build up the leaders of the Church. By offering on-going discipleship, prayer opportunities, retreats, and formation in order to prepare them to serve the youth of the Church.
Each semester, applications are taken for new members. Applicants must be in high school the following year and actively practicing their Catholic faith. New members are chosen through prayer and discernment and through information provided in their applications, an adult recommendation, and often a personal interview. Youth council members are expected to meet high exceptions including meeting every other week, participating in Youth Nights, and as many retreat opportunities as possible. They agree to serve for at least one year but most reapply as long as they are eligible.
